R.I.P. Spirit Girls

(marnie weber)
Marnie Weber is one of those artist's not afraid to push the boundaries. She recently held an exhibition in a tomb in Mountain View Mausoleum in Altadena, California. Not only is she an artist but a musician as well. Her art is featured on Sonic Youth's A Thousand Leaves.

Her artwork is hauntingly beautiful. Weber photographs and artwork largely focused on girls with white death masks. She terms these figures the Spirit Girls and are according to Weber "a band of girls that had been active but died too young to make it onto the big stage--the idea came from years of going to rock shows with no women on stage,". However Weber is deciding to put the Spirit Girls to rest as she states "I feel like they've contributed a lot to my art practice and to the community, but it's time to move on. I'm starting a new band and new body of work, multimedia as well." I love when art and music collaborate and Marnie Weber is certainly just that and the outcome is something that is not only incredibly awesome but beautiful.
